Search and Whatever

The product "Search and Whatever" is a utility designed to assist computer users in performing search operations, where the results of the search operation are to be operated upon in some manner (if this sounds vague, it is deliberately so). For example, a user might wish to search for files containing a particular fragment of text. For each file found containing the text, a copy of the file should be placed in a /backup folder. Search and Whatever is designed to make a process such as this as easy as possible.

In fact, Search and Whatever can go far beyond simple operations such as search and copy. A truly enterprising user could search for file containing "hello", modified in the last three days, ending in .txt, and under 300k in size. The results could then be copied into a /backup folder, also archived into /archive/hello.zip, as well as have a text file created containing the list of files at /logs/hello.txt, and, finally, have the original files moved to the Recycle bin. Whew!

The most recent change to Search and Whatever is the release of the Database Edition. Now you can search any JDBC-accessible database for table (by name), for fields (by name or type), or for rows (containing certain data). For example, you could search for tables with names like "emp*", with fields named "modified", and display only the rows where "employeeid = 13". Download it today!

And...as if that wasn't enough...Search and Whatever doesn't stop there! The scenarios described above are based on the File and Database Editions. Future plans for the software include an Internet Search Edition (DO something with those search results), an IP Edition (are those servers really up and running), and a Java Edition (where am really using java.io.File?).
